Since 1916, we have been strongly committed to providing our customers with the highest level of service in the building and construction markets. Building and maintaining relationships with our customers is at the heart of our business and we have a planning and management style that is consultative and systematic.

We believe in a proactive approach to all aspects of our business, but in particular to quality, safety and delivery. By getting this right, we give our customers confidence and peace of mind during the process of planning, design and construction. The hands-on responsibilities and team approach of company directors Michael Braggins, Martin Stephens, Alistair Dore and Peter Cottam underpin our organisation with a powerful and proven synergy.

We directly employ the largest and most experienced construction team in Taranaki and we have the ability to deliver any scale of construction project.

Because we employ our own qualified tradesmen and apprentices we are better able to maintain high standards of quality, safety and delivery. To support these staff we have a team of construction management professionals that includes experienced and qualified quantity surveyors, project managers and a dedicated full-time health & safety professional.

We are committed to the future of our industry and training is regularly undertaken externally and within our business activities. We encourage the next generation of builders through the Gateway programme and we engage with our community by supporting the Taranaki Health Foundation, the Taranaki International Arts Festival, Sport Taranaki, the Methanex Maths Spectacular and various other organisations and sporting groups. Clelands is also a long time Registered Master Builder.

Michael Braggins

Michael has been involved in the construction industry for 15 years and has extensive experience in both commercial and industrial construction. Michael holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Construction and his role at Clelands includes commercial management, project management and various other general management functions. Michael adds value through all phases of a project, including design, feasibility, estimating, planning and construction.

Martin Stephens

Martin has 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, the last 20 years in his current role as director and construction manager for Clelands. Prior to his involvement with Clelands, Martin held senior positions with two international construction companies. He has worked extensively offshore on large construction projects and managed a national contracting business. Martin’s role at Clelands includes construction management, project management and various other general management functions.

Peter Cottam

Service & Maintenance Manager / Director 027 485 3149

Peter has dedicated his career to construction and to Clelands and is the longest serving member of our team, recently celebrating 50 years with Clelands. He is a licenced building practitioner and manages our service and maintenance department which focuses on smaller works and maintenance contracts. Peter is a practical solution provider and understands what is needed to get a job done properly and efficiently.

Alistair Dore

Finance Manager / Director 027 445 7929

Alistair was appointed company secretary for the Clelands group in 1976 and was instrumental in restructuring the group in the late 1980s. Alistair has involvement in a number of construction and timber manufacturing companies. As finance manager for Clelands, Alistair is responsible for the accounting and finance functions. He has a detailed understanding of what it takes for a construction company to operate in a competitive market, whilst remaining strong and sustainable long term.
