Clelands is an army of construction professionals, tradesmen and support staff. We are the largest and most experienced construction team in Taranaki. Our team has expertise in residential, commercial and industrial construction and the ability to deliver any scale of construction project.
Michael has been involved in the construction industry for 15 years and has extensive experience in both commercial and industrial construction. Michael holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Construction and his role at Clelands includes commercial management, project management and various other general management functions. Michael adds value through all phases of a project, including design, feasibility, estimating, planning and construction.
Martin has 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, the last 20 years in his current role as a director for Clelands. Prior to his involvement with Clelands, Martin held senior positions with two international construction companies. He has worked extensively offshore on large construction projects and managed a national contracting business.
Bruce has served with Clelands since 1997 and has played a part in many buildings of significance in Taranaki. Bruce is a licenced building practitioner and has a vast knowledge of building construction and on-site project control. Excellent communication, planning and people skills, together with a drive to get the job done, are hallmarks of Bruce’s completed projects.
Russell was a foreman and project manager early in his career and is now a very experienced and capable estimator and quantity surveyor. Russell is trade qualified and also holds a NZ Certificate of Quantity Surveying. He has been at the front end and involved in the delivery of a variety of construction projects throughout New Zealand. Russell has served with Clelands since 1998 and has an in depth understanding of construction costs and methodology.
Carolyn is an independent director on the Clelands Board, and also a director at Baker Tilly Staples Rodway Taranaki where she has strong interests in tax and audit and assurance. Carolyn is a chartered accountant and a licenced auditor and applies independent judgement in order to add value to the Clelands Board, and to assist with risk management, provide an independent view on future strategy, and to ensure that the company has good governance policies in place.
Chris combines a trade background as a Marine Cabinet Maker with NEBOSH Occupational Health & Safety training and experience as a WorkSafe NZ Health & Safety Inspector to bring a fresh and practical approach to managing Health, Safety, Environment and Quality at Clelands.
Peter has dedicated his career to construction and to Clelands and is the longest serving member of our team, recently celebrating 50 years with Clelands. He is a licenced building practitioner and his focus is on our service and maintenance department which carries out smaller works and maintenance contracts. Peter is a practical solution provider and understands what is needed to get a job done properly and efficiently.
James is an experienced tradesman, having completed a number of residential and commercial projects as a Foreman with Clelands before transitioning to his current role. James is a licensed building practitioner and his planning and communication skills make him a very effective Project Manager. In addition to his Project Management role, James also coordinates with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and various other agencies to ensure the licensed building practitioners in our team are kept up to date on current regulations and training opportunities.
Andy is a descendant of WJ Cleland who founded Clelands in 1916. Andy completed his apprenticeship with the company and has served with Clelands for over 30 years. Andy is a licensed building practitioner and has a depth of experience in residential and commercial construction. Andy is customer focused and specialises in the management of smaller commercial works and residential alterations and new builds.
Layton is an experienced tradesman, having progressed through levels of site based personnel to become Clelands senior-most Foreman, culminating in a role as Site Manager for the highly acclaimed Len Lye Centre. Layton then transitioned to his current role as Service & Maintenance Supervisor. Layton is a licensed building practitioner and his competence and diligence serve both Clelands and our clients well. In addition to his supervisory role, Layton also coordinates with the Building & Construction Industry Training Organisation and acts as a mentor for the apprentices in our team.
Tony completed a Diploma in Construction Management & Building Studies and began his career in construction in the UK before relocating to New Zealand in 2008. Once in New Zealand, Tony gained several years’ experience with a national construction company before joining the Clelands team. Tony is involved in pricing all manner of residential, commercial and industrial projects. His systematic approach and attention to detail make him a valued member of our team.
Beth has been working as a Health and Safety Professional for the past 20+ years. She is passionate about Health and Safety and brings a wealth of knowledge in this specialist area. Beth enjoys the challenge of engaging and coaching employees and contractors to take accountability and responsibility for themselves and their colleagues for health and safety everyday. Beth’s experience as a Health & Safety professional spans across various industries including construction, manufacturing, engineering, energy, food and chemical.
